Wedding Flowers Designed with Love

I met Lindsey Fares through a mutual friend, Morgan Marie.  I needed a florist within the week and Lindsey was such a blessing and came to my rescue with the most beautiful art in the form of flowers.  She is truly a professional at what she does and yet is too humble!!

Lindsey is the first vendor I choose to feature in my new series of interviews with wedding/event professionals.  Below is a short interview and pictures of Petal and Pine's beautiful work.

LM - What is your business name and how long have you been open? LF - Petal and Pine has been open for 4 years

LM - What was your life like before what you do now?

LF - I worked in fashion in southern California in the best possible corporate environment. But even that was too structured for me, I was at the same place at the same time every day and spent way too much time in a cubicle in front of a computer.

LM - When was the moment that you knew you wanted to own your own business?

LF - I don’t think I started with that specific intention it was a bit more organic. I just wanted to play with flowers and design and somehow it seemed less scary to start on my own instead of trying to land a job in that field with no experience. Now I know being on my own means marketing myself every single day to potential clients rather than just once at a job interview!

LM - What is the hardest part of owning your own business?

LF - The hardest part for me is the paper work for accounting and taxes… it’s just so not fun

LM - Have you always been interested in flowers and design?

LF - I’ve definitely always been wedding obsessed. I requested bridal magazines for birthday gifts starting at 5. And growing up my mom definitely made design part of our lives we were always redecorating! I was an art major any medium that was fast, messy & had a lot of color. When I finally discovered flowers they were the ultimate instant gratification, you’ve got the most gorgeous good smelling sculpture in about an hour.

LM - What is your favorite part about what you do?

LF - Gathering all the flowers for weddings. It’s still like Christmas morning every single time I make a big pickup from one of my growers. I clap and gasp and oh and ahhhh and get soooo excited about having a huge pile of goodies to work with.

LM -If you could do any other job for a day what would it be?

LF - Personal shopper… preferably for wardrobe or decorating… but I think even buying grocery’s with someone else’s money could be thrilling to a point.

LM - Do you have a role model or someone that you look up to in your industry?

LF - I absolutely admire my flower farmers. They work back breakingly hard to nurture every perfect little bloom!

LM - What would you tell the younger version of you now that you know what you do?

LF - Be nice and ask questions ALL the time.

LM - Last but definitely not least, a gun is pointed at your head and you have to choose triple layer black forest cake with chocolate shavings, New York original cheesecake, or fruit?

LF - Chocolate for sure!!

Thanks Lindsey, as always it was great chatting!

Cheers to great wedding vendors and beautiful art!
